MONUMENTAL SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT FOUNDATION DONATES
MORE THAN $35,000 TO HOMEWARD TRAILS ANIMAL RESCUE

ARLINGTON, VA. – Washington Capitals better halves Carmen Brouwer and Courtney Parrie Green presented a $35,125.32 check to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue on March 28 during the Capitals game versus the Nashville Predators.

The funds were donated by Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation and were raised through the sale of the 2015 Caps Canine Calendars. The money will help provide medical and behavioral care, as well as permanent homes, for hundreds of dogs and cats rescued by Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.

The calendar features photos of Capitals players Karl Alzner, Jay Beagle, Troy Brouwer, John Carlson, Matt Niskanen, Brooks Orpik, Justin Peters, Aaron Volpatti and Joel Ward as well as former Capitals player Jack Hillen with their dogs and Nicklas Backstrom, Andre Burakovsky, Braden Holtby, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov, Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson with dogs from Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. It also features Mike Green with his cat, as Homeward Trails also has kittens and cats available for adoption.

The 2015 Caps Canine Calendar was sold at Capitals home games, at the team store at Kettler Capitals Iceplex and online at WashingtonCaps.com.

HOMEWARD TRAILS ANIMAL RESCUE

Homeward Trails Animal Rescue is a nonprofit organization that provides pet adoption in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Homeward Trails seeks to find permanent adoptive homes in the Mid-Atlantic region for dogs and cats from high-kill shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them. They seek to reduce the rate of euthanasia of adoptable animals through the rescue and placement of homeless animals; to support proactive spay/neuter practices; to promote positive and ongoing behavioral training; and to educate the public about how to care for their animals in a humane way. Homeward Trails not only facilitates adoptions from local shelters, but also supports a large network of foster care providers who take homeless dogs and cats into their homes, care for them, rehabilitate them when needed, and prepare them for their permanent adoptive homes.
