For the eighth-consecutive year, the Washington Capitals are hosting a service project with Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation at the Fort Dupont Ice Arena. Caps fans, this is your chance to get involved and give back to the community with the Washington Capitals. Join Caps Better Half Kim Trotz, Red Rockers Kathleen and Laura and Slapshot on Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. to help spruce up Fort Dupont. Adults and children are encouraged to participate. Projects will include:
- Painting locker rooms, hallways and classroom
- Cleaning and repairing speed mats and helmets and numbering rental skates
- Washing windows and cleaning and waxing boards
- Sorting and pairing hockey equipment
- Stringing goal nets
- Cleaning and mulching tree boxes and flower beds
- Sweeping the parking lot and sidewalks
- Organizing and inventorying skating dresses
This is your opportunity to be part of the team! Show the community that you care and give back with the Caps. Remember, there’s only enough space for 100 volunteers, so don’t wait, sign up below! Once you register, you will receive further details about the project. Please note that children are welcome to participate in the project, but must be signed up separately from parents.
Fort Dupont is the only public indoor ice arena located in Washington, D.C., and the only skating facility in the area that provides free or subsidized skating programs to children. Its Kids On Ice program provides free figure skating, hockey and speed skating lessons to economically disadvantaged children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn these sports. Friends of Fort Dupont Ice Arena partners with public and private schools, summer camps, churches and local community organizations to promote and deliver its programs to more than 7,000 children per year.
