MSE Foundation and Playworks Host DC Basketball Extravaganza

March 15, 2019
Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation and Washington Mystics guard Natasha Cloud participated in the Playworks of Greater Washington DC Basketball Extravaganza at Powell Elementary School in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 26. This clinic was held for first and fifth grade students. The clinic focused on dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. Cloud went from station to station, participating in ice breakers and working on basketball skills. Before leaving, Cloud answered students’ questions about learning to play basketball and being a professional athlete and posed for a group photo.

“We’re sharing our love and passion for the game of basketball, as well as teaching kids things like teamwork and kindness and positivity along the way,” said Cloud.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation supports the charitable efforts of the professional teams under its umbrella: the Washington Capitals, Mystics, Valor and Wizards, Capitals City Go-Go and Baltimore Brigade. MSE is committed to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and focuses on the following five pillars to maximize its impact and engagement with the community: youth basketball, football and hockey; education and scholarship; pediatric health and fitness; military and veterans' affairs; and hunger and homelessness.

Playworks of Greater Washington DC is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play throughout the school day.  Playworks transforms schools by helping schools, and districts make the most of recess through on-site staffing, consultative support, professional development, free resources and more. Playworks currently partners with eight public and public charter schools serving 4,000 students and trains another 150 educators per month in the Washington metropolitan area.
