Caps Players, MSE Foundation Host Holiday Party for Local Families

December 22, 2019
ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals players Nic Dowd and Garnet Hathaway and their better halves Paige Dowd and Lindsay Minges hosted a holiday party on behalf of Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation for families adopted through the Foundation’s Family-to-Family program on Dec. 10 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

This year more than 20 families were adopted through Family-to-Family, an initiative created by the Wizards more than 20 years ago that provides holiday cheer to underserved, deserving families in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

Attendees were able to play street hockey and interact with Santa, Capitals mascot Slapshot, Capitals service dog Captain and the ALL CAPS Crew. A DJ, face painter, caricature artist and balloon artist also provided entertainment. SuperFd donated hot chocolate for the guests. Presents for families to unwrap in celebration of the holidays were distributed at the party and during a delivery event with the Washington Wizards and Mystics.

The gifts were purchased in November when Capitals and Wizards better halves partnered on a holiday shopping spree at Walmart to benefit more than 100 adults and children involved in this year’s program.

The party marked the ninth year that MSE sports teams have collaborated on the Family-to-Family program, which allows them to “adopt” families in need. The families selected for participation in the Family-to-Family program were nominated by Martha’s Table, Hendley Elementary School, Bright Beginnings and The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command.

Martha’s Table is Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s Raise The Game community partner for the month of December. As part of MSE’s Social Impact Initiative, one nonprofit each month is highlighted throughout all assets of the MSE organization – Raising the Game for these Game-Changing organizations.

MSE Foundation is committed to making the region a better place for all by supporting game-changing solutions for our community. We fundraise, provide grants to nonprofits and rally MSE’s teams and fans to support and amplify the impact of community change agents. Together, we’re raising the game in the DMV.
